From John Carpenter:

Cogswell College notified me that the building will be closed until about mid September *after* the Agenda for the August meeting was sent out. It took a few days to find out that there would be no one at the College and that the meeting would either have to be cancelled or changed.

On the evening of 8/18, it was determined that the meeting would be changed as follows:

We are invited to informally meet at the C.H. Ting residence at 156 14th Avenue in San Mateo. The route is 101 to 92, West on 92 to El Camino exit northbound, North on El Camino to 14th, right on 14th to Tings house at 156 (right hand side). Caltrain stop is Hayward Park which is within walking distance.

Speakers may show up and present if they desire. There will be only a white board and the PCs do not have a SVGA monitor.

Ting's invitiation is as follows: are all invited to my house for the SVFIG meeting on Saturday, August 22, 10 am to 5 pm. We can go to a near-by restaurant and have Chinese pancake/donut with soy milk for lunch at 11:30 am.

If the speakers show up, they will present their scheduled talks. If speakers do not show, we will talk among ourselves. There has never been a shortage of discussion topics.

The largest room in the house can seat 20 people. The living room, the dinning room and the study can hold small group meetings. There are two Windows computers and a Mac.

After 5 pm, people can talk some more and go out for dinner together.

Here is the original agenda:

Coffee and Donuts

The PSC1000, a Java Machine - George Shaw
George will talk about what went into the Java based version of the Shboom chip. There will be a demonstration of the chip performance and how it handles Java and the JavaOS.

Pizza or subs from Togos?
Bring your Forth problem to Glen Haydon and he will organize his Brown Bag Tutorial accordingly.

Introductions, Announcements, Rumors, and Gossip

Firmware in Detail for the iMac - John Hall
John will report on the firmware in Apple's latest products which, for example, support CD and DVD drives. The development of the iMac open firmware will be featured.

Forth Programmers Handbook - Doug Hammed
Doug will give a report on the new handbook recently published by Forth, Inc. which provides an experienced programmer a good reference to ANSI and various other dialects of Forth.

Post meeting "tea" at a Mt. View coffee house or somewhere else is possible - if it is too early for dinner. "Weird Stuff" is not too far away - most months, a few bargain/oddity hunters gather there after the meeting.
