Technical Session: VHDL 101 - C. H. Ting As an introduction to VHDL design language and using the P16 as example, Ting will discuss the minimal VHDL elements to build useful applications. VHDL can be very complicated and mysterious. However, there are only a few elements and constructs one will need to express logic, registers, memory, and state machines. But they are sufficient to build a 16-bit microprocessor like the P16. |

Featured Talk: The Humane Interface - Jef Raskin Jef , who created the Macintosh project at Apple and was the lead designer of the all-Forth-implemented Canon Cat, is the author of a new book, The Humane Interface. Raskin in his book presents a rational, empirically based, and engineering-oriented approach to interface design. He and shows that most of today's interfaces are fundamentally flawed and points out that you cannot implement a good interface with tools like Visual Basic or the various interface toolboxes currently provided. (But you can do it with Forth). Jef will discuss his book and explain his development of tools for designing and analyzing interfaces. |
