Security

When attending SVFIG meetings, please be aware that Cogswell College now secures its doors on weekends. To gain entry to the building, there will be an SVFIG member stationed at the door from 10am to 10:15am to admit recognized SVFIG meeting attendees. If you are attending an SVFIG meeting for the first time, please bring along a printout of this agenda to identify your interest in Forth and gain admission. If you arrive after 10:15am, there will be a telephone number posted for you to call to alert someone of your presence at the door. The front door will also be checked at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes to accommodate those without cellphones.

Do not under any circumstances let any strangers enter Cogswell. Those who are authorized admittance have key-cards.

Final Agenda

10:00 --- Coffee and Tea
10:15 --- The Eternal Sorrow - CH Ting
"I will show my new movie, The Eternal Sorrow, which is a long poem by Po Chu-i of the Tang Dynasty on the love story of Emperor Ming and Lady Yang. The music was set to the songs in Schubert's Winterreise, which I did 10 years ago. The video images are taken from a TV series on Emperor Ming. I am adding subtitles in English and in Chinese so you guys can enjoy it."
Noon --- Lunch
Some folks bring their lunch, some folks go to Togos.
13:30 --- Introductions, announcements, rumors, random access
13:45 --- Machine Readable FIG-Forth - Kevin Appert
We'd like to make an archive of usable FIG-Forth code available. If you have working assembly code, not scans, of the FIG listings or derived from the FIG listings, bring or send it in.
14:00 --- Maker Faire 2007 - Dave Jaffe
Dave will describe the sights and sounds of the Maker Faire held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds last weekend.
14:45 --- Break
15:00 --- Shareware, Freeware, and Trialware - All in Attendance
Bring in the name of your favorite bit of download. Anything from violin tuners to packet sniffers is fair game.

How you can help:

  • Bring your speaker and topic suggestions to every meeting!
  • Your input for November's Forth Day is always welcomed.

Coming to SVFIG soon:

  • A representative from Gumstix will be contacted for a possible presentation.
  • A tour of TechShop is tentatively planned for June. Interesting TechShop events
  • A presentation by Andy Korsak about WAV file and soundcard I/O software using Win32Forth for amateur radio applications is being planned for June. His preliminary work is posted on the Yahoo Win32Forth group. You must be a member of this group to access those files.
  • Propeller Forth - written locally by Cliff L. Biffle
  • Don Roberts has some talks in the works: "First, I've been implementing a re-factored version of Ting's P16 tailored for Spartan FPGAs, coded in VHDL. Right now it "works" in simulation. Second, I've been thinking about a talk to follow up Ting's thoughts about minimal instruction sets. This includes my first hands-on experience; a 4-biter with a whopping 7 opcodes from the late 1960s."

If you have anything you'd like to talk about in May,
please contact Kevin Appert.
